CenterNET2 Detailed Description

As part of its CenterNET2 initiative, The Center developed an integrated content delivery system capable of creating both multiple and diverse points of access that greatly enhance the ability of the end-user to receive content provided through this network.

For over 8 years, The Center has provided interactive video conferencing scheduling and multi-conference bridging at thirty-six locations throughout the forty-two counties that comprise The Center's service area. Beginning in April, The Center formed a partnership with Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) to provide bridging and scheduling services to 67 KCTCS rooms located throughout Kentucky . With this initiative underway and to enhance the availability of content for the original CenterNET sits, enhanced services were integrated into the existing infrastructure allowing content to flow into and out of the network more readily.

The enhanced services include the use of streaming media through MPEG 1, 2 and 4 and web casting of content running on the CenterNET network. The network also received an enhanced bridging device that allows for H.323 (or IP based) interactive video conferencing integration. This allows ITV rooms from around the world to be easily and inexpensively integrated into the network as content deliverers of recipients.

The streaming media enhancement, coupled with the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Network statewide high bandwidth capability, allows television quality one way video to originate on and be distributed throughout the KPEN network. Taking this a stop further, it becomes a transport for TV quality video that can be distributed over the CenterNET network, web cast for the Internet or provided to Digital Television distribution facilities to commercial venues such as WKYT or WYMT for delivery over the airways. CenterNET2 will be a model for the delivery of content.
